Memorial Stadium

Memorial Stadium is a football stadium located on the campus of the University of Nebraska. It is known as The Sea of Red and has gained fame for being the home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. And it also earns renown for hosting a variety of other university and state activities.

The stadium was originally built in 1923 at a cost of around $450,000. This stadium had a capacity of 31, 080 fans and was built to replace Nebraska Field. The first game played at the new stadium was a 24-0 Nebraska landslide over Oklahoma on October 13, 1923.

The stadium then underwent a series of expansions that raised the capacity. Eventually this capacity reached 85,458 fans, but attendance records frequently exceeded 90,000. Nebraska also has a history of sold out games, with a record 381 consecutive sold out games at Memorial Stadium. This record dates back as far as 1962.

And as trivia, when the stadium is full, it holds more people than the population of Bellevue, Nebraska’s third-largest city.
